In this year’s national Canadian Community Newspaper Awards the Surrey Now-Leader picked up awards for headlines, column writing, website and multimedia projects. The Now-Leader took top spot in the Best Headline Writing category.
Staff writer Tom Zytaruk earned 2nd place in the Outstanding Columnist category and the Now-Leader placed third in the Best Website category. The Now-Leader’s Amy Reid and Lauren Collins were recognized with 2nd place in the Best Multimedia category for their Christmas light map and videos project.
“It really shows the level of dedication and passion among our staff,” said editor Beau Simpson. “Their journalism – both online and in print – is second to none and it’s great to see them being recognized for it.”
The Canadian Community Newspaper Awards celebrate the best in community publishing from across the country. Newspapers of similar circulation size compete against each other and are judged by a panel of industry experts.
