OTTAWA, 31 August 2020 –/COMMUNITYWIRE/– The Canadian Foundation for Food and Agricultural Education (CFFAE) is pleased to announce Chelsea Sutherland is the 2020 recipient of the Douglas McRorie Memorial Scholarship, which is made available through the generous financial support of the RBC Foundation.
Chelsea is a Masters’ student at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research interests include the positive economic and environmental contributions of innovative agricultural technologies. The goal of these projects was to identify ways to improve upon the present knowledge-gap between consumers and the agricultural industry, with the intent of building greater consumer trust in the food system.
She is currently involved in a large crop rotation survey of farmers in Saskatchewan to document the changes in management and production practices that have occurred over the past 25 years. “The skills I am building in this position, including technical writing, data analysis, and professional communication, will stay with me long into my career”, said Sutherland.
The McRorie scholarship was established in 1990 to honour past-president and agri-finance innovator Douglas McRorie, PAg, FAIC. Mr. McRorie served as Vice President of Agriculture for the Royal Bank of Canada and was a respected agricultural leader in Canada. The McRorie Scholarship supports graduate students in agricultural business, finance, economics and trade, selected based on their academic achievements, areas of study, leadership and career interests.
The Canadian Foundation for Food and Agricultural Education is a registered national charity providing scholarship programs to foster the study of agricultural and food sciences since 1987.
