The Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA) Better Newspapers Competition honours the great work of Ontario’s weekly community newspapers. Congratulations to the 2022 winners in the Community Service category.
1st Place: The Uxbridge Cosmos – Special Early Edition
“This entire edition brought tears to my eyes. When there were no other means of communication available, the team of the Uxbridge Cosmos went above and beyond to bring crucial information to its residents. What a unique opportunity for a newspaper to do what it was meant to do. I could go on and on about how outstanding the newspaper edition is and the folks who made it happen. But just wow.”
2nd Place: The Eganville Leader – Fundraiser for Ukraine
“Excellent work organizing a fundraiser for Ukraine to mark the anniversary of the Eganville Leader. Outstanding coverage leading up to and including the event. Thinking outside the borders of Eganville brought the generosity of its citizens to a global level.”
3rd Place: The Haldimand Press – 2022 Provincial Election Debate
“Outstanding work organizing a political forum to bring to local residents. Congratulations on a successful event.”
The 2022 awards showcase the hard work, talent, and dedication demonstrated by Ontario publishers, editors, reporters, photographers, and designers. More than 1,200 entries were received and the awards were presented at a virtual ceremony on April 14, 2023.
