Postmedia has announced plans to cease publishing a Sunday edition in three of its major markets as part of budget trimming measures across the chain.
The Edmonton Journal, the Ottawa Citizen and the Calgary Herald will stop publishing on Sundays, and there will be no Monday edition of the National Post again this summer.
In other budget trimming measures, copy-editing functions will be moved out of metropolitan newsrooms to a centralized facility in Hamilton, Ontario, where page layout is already handled.
After testing metered subscription services at the Montreal Gazette, Postmedia has announced metered paywalls will be rolled out at the Ottawa Citizen and the Vancouver Sun, possibly as early as June.
The Globe and Mail announced earlier this month its plans to start charging for online content in the fall.
