Canada Post announces literacy award winners

Canada Post has announced the winners of its 12th annual literacy awards.  The Canadian Community Newspapers Association is an official supporter of the 2004 awards.

Ceremonies honouring each winner for their outstanding achievements will be held over the next two months. Winners in the Individual Achievement and Educator categories receive a computer and Community Leadership winners are awarded a $2,000 cash prize. The Business Leadership winner will be recognized at the annual general meeting of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

The awards honour CanadiansÔÇÖ outstanding commitment to literacy. The awards are described as ÔÇ£the country’s only national awards program dedicated to recognizing grass roots literacy initiatives and to celebrating the achievements of learners and the people who help them.ÔÇØ

Anne Joynt, President and CEO of Canada Post, said, “Canada Post is pleased to honour the men and women who have overcome this major obstacle in their life. Their accomplishments ensure that they are able to function in a society where understanding the written word is the foundation of individual success.
