Transcontinental Media has announced the purchase of Cornwall, Ontario’s Seaway News. Serving eastern Ontario since 1985 and reaching 36,000 homes in the region, the newspaper joins 168 other Transcontinental-owned community publications across Canada.
“Seaway News is a truly local weekly paper and captures the spirit of the Cornwall area,” said Marc-No├½l Ouellette, Senior Vice President, Newspaper Group, Transcontinental Media, in the press release. “And, just as residents look forward to reading about their community each week, we look forward to continuing the success of the paper and building our portfolio in eastern Ontario.”
Seaway News co-founders Dick Aubry and Rick Shaver, the publisher and general manager respectively, were also quoted in the release: “In 1985 we launched what was then called Seaway Shopping News, and weÔÇÖve been with the paper as itÔÇÖs grown to become Seaway News. Transcontinental is known for its commitment to both a strong editorial presence and creative advertising solutions in the communities it serves; Cornwall will be no exception.”
Transcontinental publishes a variety of daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly newspapers in seven provinces including Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and throughout the East Coast.
No staff changes are expected at the Seaway News as a result of the sale.
