APME’s popular NewsTrain workshop is coming to Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 6 to 7. Reporters, editors and journalism students wont want to miss this comprehensive two-day digital training event, which will cover a wide variety of newsroom skills and strategies, such as: using social media skills for personal branding, audience engagements and sourcing; planning for breaking news on multiple platforms, utilizing analytics to increase readership; and shooting compelling video and photos with your smartphone.
Kathy Kieliszewski, visuals director for the Detroit Free Press and four-time Emmy Award winner, will teach the video and photo sessions. Social media and breaking news sessions will be led by speaker Daniel Victor, a senior staff editor at the New York Times and a former social media editor at the Times and at ProPublica.org. Additional instructors will be named soon.
NewsTrain is hosted by Newspapers Canada, Atlantic Journalism Awards, Canadian Association of Journalists, Brunswick News, TC Media, University of King’s College School of Journalism, and Newspapers Atlantic.
