Dave Obee has been named publisher of the Times Colonist. Obee has been editor-in-chief of the Times Colonist for six years, and will continue to serve in that role.
He has been with the newspaper for 21 years. He started his career in Kamloops and worked at the Calgary Herald for nine years before buying a weekly newspaper in the Okanagan Valley.
Obee said his goal is to ensure the long-term viability of the Times Colonist, through the printed edition as well as digital products. He will also oversee the renewal of the newspaper’s offices on Douglas Street.
Obee holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Victoria, awarded for his work in journalism, history and genealogy.
He was the 2017 recipient of the Bill Good Award, given to a person who has made a significant impact on journalism in B.C. and the community at large.
Obee has written several books, including Making the News, a look at the history of Greater Victoria as reported in our newspapers.
