Now Magazine finds a buyer

Now Magazine, Toronto’s long-time alt weekly, has been acquired by Gonez Media and plans to re-launch the publication as a digital-only outlet on Jan 17, Media in Canada reports.

Gonez Media was created in 2021 by former CP24 personality Brandon Gonez to launch a new online news and entertainment program, The Brandon Gonez Show. Last year the show struck a sponsorship deal with TD.

In an announcement published this past Monday, the company said the major focus of a re-launched Now would be news about art, music and entertainment. It would also post its content on Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube.

Now Magazine was acquired by Media Central in late 2019. By the end of March 2022, however, Media Central was no longer able to meet its financial obligations and filed for bankruptcy.
