Bowes Publishers Limited Vice President Bob Pearce has assumed the chair of CCNA’s Distribution Committee.
Pearce replaces Don Kendall, who has relocated to Honolulu as part of the Black Press expansion. Pearce, who also sits on CCNA’s committee dealing with the Publications Assistance Program, joined the committee last fall and was part of a delegation that met with Canada Post officials to discuss proposed operational changes that would benefit community newspapers.
The Distribution Committee will continue with its original mandate to review all aspects of community newspaper distribution, especially Canada Post, to ensure that alternatives are effective and affordable. At present, the committee is pressing for the creation of an unaddressed version of Publications Mail to help rationalize Canada Post services to the community press. The committee is also working with its postal consultant to run a series of pricing models in order to get a better understanding of the full range of distribution costs.
