Enter the Better Newspapers Competition

Looking for the perfect category to enter in the Canadian Community Newspapers Association’s (CCNA) 2007 Better Newspapers Competition (BNC), but aren’t sure which one is right for you? Here are three categories that you should remember when planning your entries for the 2007 BNC!

WEB SITE DESIGN
Think your website is the best looking one on the block? Enter the BNCÔÇÖs Best Web Site Design category and show us what youÔÇÖve got. To enter, just look for category 224 on the entry form and fill in your website address.

HEADLINE WRITING
ItÔÇÖs one of the most important parts of any story: it draws readers into the article, sets the tone for what you want to say, and you only have a single line to make an impact. The Best Headline Writing category is open to all circulation classes. To enter submit tear sheets for your three best headlines in 2006.

GENERAL EXCELLENCE
Considered the most prestigious award in the BNC, the General Excellence category recognizes the best newspapers in eight circulation classes, with trophies presented for the Best All-Round Newspaper, the Best Front Page and Best Editorial Page in each class. To enter, submit two copies of your newspaper–one from the week of March 19-25, 2006, and one from the week of September 10- 16, 2006.

Visit the BNC website at http://www.communitynews.ca/bncawards for the full rules of entry and to download the forms. Just remember, the earlybird deadline is Wednesday, January 10, 2007. Entries that meet the earlybird requirements will be entered into a draw for a voucher worth up to $1,500 toward the cost of attending the CCNA national convention.

Your entries must be received at the CCNA office–8 Market St., Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario, M5E 1M6–postmarked or shipped prepaid prior to midnight on Friday, January 19, 2007 (C.O.D. packages will not be accepted.) If you have any questions you can reach me at 1-877-305-2262 x29 or apowell@ccna.ca.
