Victoria-based Black Press Group Ltd. has purchased the San Francisco Examiner from Clarity Media Group for an undisclosed amount. "We are delighted to become involved with such a strong newspaper. Readership is second to none in San Francisco and on the peninsula," said Black Press president David Black following the announcement.
Earlier this month, Black Press purchased three U.S. papers through its Sound Publishing division. The company now owns over 170 daily and weekly newspapers in Western Canada and the United States including the Red Deer Advocate, the Akron (Ohio) Journal and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The transaction is expected to close on November 30.
