Veteran sports reporter Bob Elliott receives baseball writing award

Long-time Toronto Sun sports columnist Bob Elliott has been named the first Canadian recipient of the J.G. Taylor Spink Award from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA). The award is presented annually to a reporter who has made significant contributions to the coverage of the sport.

Elliot began his sportswriting career at just 17-years-old as the sports reporter for the Kingston Whig-Standard. He went on to cover the Montreal Expos for the Ottawa Citizen from 1978 to 1987 before joining the Toronto Sun as the reporter for the Blue Jays baseball team.

In 2011, he was named the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame’s Jack Graney Award winner.

Elliott was presented with the prestigious Spink Award during a ceremony on July 21 at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y.
