News Media Canada has released Snapshot 2022, the annual report on circulation. Data collected in 2022 is based on the 1,020 newspaper titles in our database, representing almost 30 million circulation each week.
The 2022 report is based on 949 community newspapers and 71 daily newspapers, accounting for a total of 29,926,213 copies circulated across Canada every week.
- Community newspapers account for 13,844,106 copies each week, and daily newspapers account for 16,082,107 copies.
- Over a third (35%) of newspaper circulation is paid, and 65% is free (controlled).
- Three out of ten newspapers publish in broadsheet format (30%), and approximately two-thirds publish in tabloid format (67%).
