Mark Iype will be the new editor at the Edmonton Sun and the Edmonton Journal effective October 1, 2016. Over the course of his career, Iype has served in editorial roles at newsrooms across the country. He was a reporter for CanWest news and served as senior editor at the Telegraph-Journal in Saint John, New Brunswick. Iype first joined the Edmonton Journal as a city editor/business editor in early 2014.
Meanwhile, Edmonton Journal deputy editor Kathy Kerr has announced she will be retiring at the end of September. Kerr has been with Postmedia for more than three decades, working predominantly in newsrooms within Edmonton and at the Calgary Herald.
Following Kerr’s departure, Dave Breakenridge will assume the role of deputy editor for both the Journal and Sun. Breakenridge worked as a reporter, assistant city editor, associate news editor, and online news editor at the Calgary Sun before he was appointed editor in chief for the Edmonton Sun in June 2014.
