The SaltWire Network, a chain of 35 newspapers across Atlantic Canada, will be launching a metered paywall for online content starting Monday.
Online readers of SaltWire newspapers, which includes the Cape Breton Post, will have access to some free content, including breaking news, weather alerts, and content readily available from other news sources. However, web readers will be limited to three free premium articles per month without a subscription. Online subscriptions will start at $4.99 for the first three months, rising to $14.99 per month thereafter. Print subscribers will automatically be granted access to all online content for free.
In a letter addressed to readers, Mark Lever, president and CEO of SaltWire Network, said he hoped to see readers support the work of local journalists.
