In 2022, there were 949 community newspapers in Canada and 986 editions. Community newspapers published 13.8 million copies each week and the majority of circulation was free (controlled), accounting for almost 13.4 million copies weekly. Community newspapers published in broadsheet and tabloid formats, and 85% of all editions were tabloids.
