London Community News (ON) reporter Mary Baxter has been named the recipient of this year’s International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) Star Prize for print journalism. Baxter received the prize for an article on Lyme disease that appeared in a May 2011 issue of Better Farming magazine, where she holds the position of field editor.
According to the judges, Baxter’s award-winning piece, titled Lyme disease: the painful and hard-to-diagnose condition, reflected “a nice mix of human interest story telling and scientific research, exemplifying great journalism.”
The article previously received gold in the press feature category at the 2011 Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation (CFWF) awards.
