The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) and Aga Khan Foundation Canada have announced the inaugural recipients of the Fellowship for International Development Reporting. Winning applicants Marc Ellison and Mellissa Fung will receive $25,000 each in order to cover stories in the developing world. Ellison, a Toronto Star journalist, will produce a multi-platform project for the paper covering the complex issue of child marriage in Tanzania. Fung will report on the post-NATO opportunities and challenges in Afghanistan for The Walrus’s print, mobile and tablet editions.
"The CAJ is looking forward to the work that Mellissa and Marc are about to undertake and the stories they will share with their audiences," CAJ president Hugo Rodrigues said. "Their projects will help enrich Canadians’ understanding of the developing world and provide a foundation for continuing to build a community of people with interest and expertise on what happens outside our own borders."
