A recent story in J-Source has highlighted how crossword puzzles have been an unintended victim of local newspaper closures.
The Peterborough Examiner, however, has recently has been experimenting with new crossword puzzles after noticing that the newspaper had lost subscribers because of the crossword (or lack thereof).
It was a hard lesson about how much people rely on it as a part of their daily paid package, said Kennedy Gordon, the Examiner’s managing editor.
It also echoes a poignant observation made in our recent study Local Newspapers: Trusted and True.
Our research found that three out of 10 daily newspaper readers list puzzles as one of their main reasons for reading.
