Canada’s newspaper industry had a total weekly circulation of almost 34 million in 2020, including both daily and community newspapers. On the whole, 35% of newspaper circulation was paid and 65% was free in 2020.
New data recently released by News Media Canada looks at the industry in detail, organized neatly in a fact sheet that can be found here. Supplementing the fact sheet, there is an article summarizing some of the key facts, which can be found here.
To give Canadians an even better understanding of daily and community newspapers around the country, News Media Canada has released a printable report and spreadsheet with the Snapshot 2020 data for reference. To download the Snapshot 2020 report and fact sheet, click here.
