Newspapers are a highly valued and essential part of Canadian culture, communities, and democracy, providing fact-based credible reporting that Canadians can trust and feel confident sharing with family and friends.
Local newspapers deliver vital information to Canadians every day, providing diverse, original content that cannot be found anywhere else. In fact, nine in 10 Canadians (87%) read newspapers each week across Canada – either in print or digital format.
Year after year local information continues to drive readership of newspapers across the country. Nine out of ten print and digital readers rely on their newspapers for local information about their community including news, editorial, sports, entertainment, events, crime features and even obituaries.
In many case, advertising, including flyers is cited as the main reason for reading by more than half of print readers.
