Newspapers Canada has once again recruited a team of volunteers to help cover the INK+BEYOND national newspaper conference. Four representatives from local journalism schools will be taking photographs and providing written coverage of the various speaker sessions, workshops, awards galas and other events taking place during this year’s event in Charlottetown, PEI.

Newspapers Canada will also publish a special conference-themed edition of News on News on Thursday, June 5 with coverage highlights from this year’s industry event.

Melissa Heald
Melissa lives in Charlottetown, P.E.I and has recently completed her first year in journalism at Holland College. She also has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Theatre Studies from Dalhousie University. She recently interned at the Metro in Halifax. She enjoys writing and has won an award for one of her short stories and two of her plays. She’s a big movie buff, a T.V. junkie and a huge bookworm. She dreams of being an Arts and Entertainment reporter, but also likes being well-informed about current events and the issues of the day. Connor Jay
Connor never wanted to be a journalist. He actually laughed people enrolling into journalism programs. Yet somehow, 2 universities and 3 campus newspapers later, Connor is a journalist. Well, kind of. He’s much more interested in making the stories beautiful rather than writing the stories. He loves designing web pages and laying out print publications. He feels most at home in the production side of things but can always grab a notepad and paper when needed. A passionate fellow, he loves cycling, running, design, men’s style and branding.
Connor spends most of his time at St Thomas University in Fredericton, battling with professors on why the journalism program is years behind the times, and making The Aquinian beautiful as the Web & Layout Editor. You’ll also find him involved in all things Canadian University Press related as he’s the Atlantic Director. If you see him around the conference, go say hello!
Zara McAlister
Zara McAlister is a media relations specialist for Business Wire Canada. She studied English literature at Queen’s University and holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from Western University.
An avid traveler and lover of chick lit (when no one is looking), Zara will also never turn down free pizza. She resides in Toronto.
Sarah Seeley
Sarah Seeley was born in Yarmouth Nova Scotia, but has lived in P.E.I. for as long as she can remember. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and attends Holland College in Charlottetown.
She has interned at the Guardian, the Island’s provincial newspaper. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys reading, writing, and playing football.
