Crowd-sourced report highlights Canadians’ vision for privacy

OpenMedia has partnered with Canadian Journalists for Free Expression to launch Canada’s Privacy Plan, a crowdsourced report that provides various recommendations for improving privacy in Canada in the wake of Bill C-51.

Over 10,000 individuals participated in a survey in which they were asked to rank six different privacy issues to determine those that are considered priorities.Based on their input, the report recommends policy resolutions to address three major privacy concerns: the need for government agencies to obtain a warrant before accessing citizens’ personal information; mass surveillance initiatives currently conducted by agencies such as CSIS and the CSE; and the need for increased transparency over government surveillance and data collection.
