The flagship of the digital platforms offered by La Presse, the tablet application La Presse+ took top honors in the “Best News Mobile Service” category at the North American Digital Media Awards gala held this evening in New York.
Jury members underscored the innovative character of an application that is unique in the world of daily newspapers. As mobile services, finalists were assessed on the basis of user-friendliness and quality of design. Ease of use and navigation, along with product coherence within the principal publication’s brand and mission, were other evaluation criteria.
“We are proud that La Presse+ was chosen as the recipient of this prestigious award,” stated Pierre-Elliott Levasseur, president of La Presse. “The distinction strengthens our conviction that we possess an outstanding platform for reaching and better informing our readers on a daily basis, a platform that at the same time is an unrivalled vehicle for advertisers seeking to address them. Thanks to the success of La Presse+, La Presse has been in a position to announce the definitive closing of its print edition, as it looks ahead to becoming the first completely digital major news daily in January 2018.”
The two other finalists in the “Best News Mobile Service” category were the applications Le Devoir Mobile and the Journal de Montréal’s J5. La Presse+ also finished second in the “Best Innovation New Product” category, behind the Washington Post’s Arc Publishing application. As category winner in the North American component, La Presse+ automatically becomes a finalist at the 2018 edition of the World Digital Media Awards.
