Sports Media Canada has named National Post columnist Bruce Arthur and long-time Edmonton Journal photographer Ed Kaiser as two of the three recipients of the 2012 George Gross Media Awards for sports photography, broadcasting and writing.
Arthur, who first joined the National Post in 2001, was named best sports writer of the year and was honoured for his coverage of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Kaiser, who has worked at the Edmonton Journal for 25 years, won in the photography category for his photograph of the Canadian women’s soccer team celebrating after winning the bronze-medal match against France at the Games.
In the broadcast category, TSN anchor Rod Smith was recognized for his coverage of the London 2012 aquatic events.
Edmonton Sun journalist Terry Jones will be honoured with the 2012 Sports Media Canada George Gross Award for Career Achievement.
The awards, which were established in 2001 in honour of late Toronto Sun sports editor George Gross, will be given out on October 16 during a luncheon event.
