News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) announced the winners of its annual News Photographers of the Year awards during the National Pictures of the Year Gala event in Vancouver on May 9. This year’s awards saw 1,887 submissions from Canadian photojournalists whose compelling images collectively represented a spectacular body of work. Nathan Denette from The Canadian Press was honoured as the photojournalist of the year and freelance photographer Michelle Siu won photograph of the year for her image of 52-year-old Thalidomide victim Bernadette Bainbridge.
