Black Press acquires several Glacier papers

Victoria-based media baron David Black has acquired 11 newspapers from Glacier Media. The acquisitions by Black Press include the Trail Times, Nelson Daily News and the Prince Rupert Daily News as well as the Creston Valley Advance and several other B.C. based publications.Four of the papers will be closed down as a result of the deal including the dailies in Nelson and Prince Rupert, both of which have been operating since the early 1900’s. In Alberta, Black Press will sell the Rocky Mountain Outlook and the Canmore Real Estate Group to Great West Newspaper Group. As part of this transaction Black Press will acquire the Red Deer Express from Great West Newspapers. Black Press currently publishes over 100 newspapers in B.C., Alberta, Washington State, Ohio and Hawaii.
