Scandal rocks British newspaper industry, but could it happen here?

The News of the World scandal has rocked the newspaper industry on both sides of the pond, leading North Americans to ask “Could it happen here?”

No, says Toronto Star editor Michael Cooke, a former Fleet Street reporter in an interview with CBC Radio One. “In Canadian journalism we have something called ethics. Among the Fleet Street tabloids, they think ethics is a county just outside London…they don’t seem to have it.”
