A new fact sheet from News Media Canada provides a snapshot of the daily newspaper industry with data on circulation, revenue and readership.
At the end of 2016 there were 98 daily newspapers publishing in Canada with more than 5 million copies circulating on the average weekday (print and digital copies). The majority of newspapers in Canada are paid publications in broadsheet format.
Advertising revenue for daily newspapers in 2016 was more than $1.2 billion with the majority in retail advertising.
Moreover, readership data confirms that eight of ten Canadian adults reads a newspaper in printed or digital format on a weekly basis.
