Small, mid-sized newsrooms can apply for free data training

Applications are now open for small and midsize newsrooms in Canada and the U.S. to receive free data training from Investigative Reporters & Editors in partnership with the Google News Initiative.

Up to ten newsrooms will be selected to participate in the Data in Local Newsrooms Training Program and will receive two days of in-house IRE data training, plus follow-up data consultation and services as part of an ongoing partnership with IRE.

To apply, newspapers must have a circulation of no more than 100,000 on their largest circulation day. A news group that is an umbrella organization for multiple publications may submit one application. French publications are welcome to apply, but all training will be in English. The deadline to apply is June 17, 2019 and selected newsrooms will be announced in July.
