Canadian papers come out on top at Local Media Association awards

The Local Media Association (formerly Suburban Newspaper Association) has announced the winners of its annual editorial awards for newspapers across North America.

Metroland Media and Black Press were the top company winners at this year’s competition with Metroland acquiring an impressive 129 awards across the chain and Black Press receiving 55 awards. The Surrey/North Delta (ON) Leader and the St. Albert (AB) Gazette were the top weekly papers receiving 14 awards each while the Burlington (ON) Post and The Mississauga (ON) News earned 10 and nine awards respectively.

The annual editorial competition saw thousands of entries from newspapers across Canada and the United States. The awards celebrate editorial excellence across six different circulation classes.

Local Media Association, formerly the Suburban Newspapers of America, represents over 2,000 newspapers with a total circulation of 22 million across North America
