Announcing the winners of the 2014 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards

Newspapers Canada is pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards. This prestigious annual awards program features over 30 unique categories honouring outstanding editorial, photography, multimedia and overall excellence in community newspaper publishing. The 2014 competition saw 273 publications from coast to coast submit 2,688 entries representing their best work from 2013.

Highlights:

  • The Yukon News in Whitehorse, YT received six first place awards within its circulation class at this year’s competition: Best All-Around Newspaper, Best Editorial Page, Outstanding Columnist, Outstanding Reporter Initiative, Best Local Editorial and Best Sports Photo.
  • The MacLeod Gazette received three first place accolades for Best All-Round Newspaper, Best Front Page and Best Editorial Page.
  • Journal Adsum at CFB Valcartier in Quebec was named this year’s Best Canadian Forces Base Newspaper.
  • Outstanding Campus Newspaper went to The Gateway, University of Alberta

This year’s first-place winners will be recognized at a special awards presentation on Thursday, May 29 during the INK+BEYOND newspaper conference in Charlottetown, PEI.
