Traditional media continue to be the most trusted source for news and information in Canada, according to the 2022 release of the Edelman Trust Barometer.
Up two points over the previous year, 57% of Canadians trust traditional media compared to only 21% who trust social media (down 1 point).
Although trust in Canada remains stable, more than seven out of ten worry about false information or fake news being used as a weapon. Canadians of all ages can learn how to differentiate fake news from real news using the simple, 4 step media literacy tool at SPOT Fake News.
Edelman has studied trust for more than 20 years, and this online survey is based on fieldwork conducted in November 2021 in 28 countries. There were 1,500 interviews conducted in Canada.
