Majority of Canadians support government’s efforts to encourage Google and Facebook to negotiate with Canadian news organizations

A new Nanos poll, conducted on behalf of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, shows that the majority of Canadians support the federal government’s efforts to encourage tech giants, such as Facebook and Google to negotiate with Canadian news organizations for fair compensation for editorial content.

In addition, the poll’s results found that more than 80 per cent of Canadians are not confident that tech giants work in the best interest of Canadians.

Moreover, the poll revealed that nine in ten Canadians say the ability to access local, regional, national and international news from Canadian sources is important to them.
