Torstar buys Ottawa-area papers

In a deal announced this morning, Torstar has bought Runge Publishing Ltd. which operates 18 weeklies in the Ottawa area. The move was part of Torstar’s stated goal to increase its community newspaper holdings.

So far this year, Torstar has purchased 28 community newspapers across Ontario, bringing the total number of community newspapers owned by Torstar and its subsidiarys, including Metroland, to 95.

Papers affected by the deal include: The Kanata Kourier-Standard, The Stittsville Weekender, The Stittsville News, The Arnprior Chronicle-Guide, The Arnprior Weekender, The West Carleton Review Weekender, The Renfrew Mercury, The Renfrew Weekender, The Almonte Gazette, The Carleton Place Canadian, The Mississippi Weekender, The Barrhaven Weekender, The Ottawa South Weekender, The Nepean Weekender, The Manotick Review, The Kemptville Advance, The Kemptville Weekender, and the Iroquois Chieftain.
