Newspapers Canada continues to research newspaper readership across different platforms and by time of day. The most recent study, 2016: Newspapers 24/7, was conducted in January 2016 and confirms the continued strength of newspaper readership across demographics.
More people are embracing technology to read newspapers and they are doing this while still reading in print. Nine of ten Canadians (87%) report reading a newspaper on any platform (print, desktop/laptop, phone or tablet) each week and more than a quarter (27%) are reading newspaper content on ALL FOUR platforms.
Newspaper readership in print tends to happen at the beginning and end of the day, while evening is the key tablet readership period. Newspaper content is accessed by phone throughout the day and desktop/laptop readership peaks several times through the day. 2016: Newspapers 24/7 provides a snapshot of readership habits for a variety of target groups.
